Spice Addict
I just ordered $30+ in spices from Penzey's. Oops. I'm looking forward to trying a few new items and restocking some old favorites. This is a dangerous habit I'm forming.
The main reason I placed an order was to get Fenugreek...there is a chicken tikka masala I'm dying to try, and that's the only spice I didn't have.
Also ordered ground cayenne, ground chipotle, cumin seed, white peppercorn, saffron, herb d' provence, and a soup base...so I can try it instead of boullion cubes or canned stock? We'll see how that works out!
Now here's the business idea: I received our Penzey's catalog the other week and noticed that they have stores in many cities, but none in the DC metro area. Who wants to open up a Penzey's store in DC?
Penzy's is great! I love that place! I have a store within two blocks of our place... I don't know how to describe it other than to say when you walk in, it smells really, really good.
Chilefire: They have a great selection, in various sizes and very reasonable prices. Their website is less than sexy. Their catalog is nice though. I'd recommend requesting one.
Brunette: Damn you for suggesting opening a shop! It would be sooo awesome.
Jon: You lucky bastard!!!
I actually had about four other things in my shopping cart and felt that it was best to let a few wishful items go...maybe next time. The biggest item that I didn't get was whole vanilla beans. I've never used them and would love to have them! And I forgot the bay leaves I need.
I went through a phase a couple years back when this is what I thought I should do. It would be really incredible...but then I was like...a) where is the capital going to come from, and b) will it still be fun if you're stressing about paying rent?

oh, and crystallized ginger for Ginger Scones following the recipe from Teaism!
And as he said, to be fair, they're spices we actually needed.
Yesterday we had a very therapeutic "cleansing of the spice rack/cabinet" afternoon.
Excellent! I hope they work out great for you.

Meant to add that after a couple of crummy weeks at work, I'm feeling a little entrepreneurial myself!
