DC "Cheap Eats"

CNN.com posted a story from Southern Living about cheap, tasty places to eat in DC. Certainly geared towards the tourist crowd, I hadn't heard of two or three of the places that are actually near my office. Might have to consider checking them out sometime.

Hmmmm... I do enjoy Matchbox and The Diner, so good calls there. Most of the others are places that I haven't been but would really like to try.

But Lauriol Plaza? No, no, a thousand times no!!! To carry on the theme from another thread, that restaurant is at the top of my "overrated" list.

DCFoodies refers to it as LauriHOLE plaza and I agree with that completely. I don't get the popularity of a place with indifferent service and crappy food.

Wow, two of these places made my overrated list! (MCB, whatchootalkingbout? I thought you were anti-Diner!) But I do love Ben's Chili Bowl, even though I haven't been there in like 2 years. Now that I eat the beef again, it's time for a visit!

I've never been to Lauriol Plaza, and I've never heard one good thing about it....almost makes me want to go just to see how bad it is...considering that it does keep getting recommendations...I'm guessing a manager/owner is using the equivalent of the restaurant review 'casting couch.' I do remember Al Gore went their for dinner during the month we had no idea who the president was going to be. There was a major deal about it...cameras/tv's.
