On yours and Em's recommendations, I'm reading ANIMAL, VEGETABLE, MIRACLE right now and cannot wait for the farmers' market to open this year. Talked to Naun and Gramps and they are growing: basil, parsley, swiss chard, arugula, tomatoes (LOTS), cucumbers, and I think eggplants.
